How you can spend one hour a month helping a kid go to college

Are you so busy that you couldn’t give up an hour each month (on average) to help a young person go to college for free?

Surely not.

We need you to step up and become a nashvilleAchieves mentor. What does it mean? What do you have to do? What is nashvilleAchieves? Let’s take a look.

A nashvilleAchieves mentor…

• Makes initial contact with students before January team meeting
• Reaches out to parents/guardians if possible
• Reminds students of all meetings and deadlines
• Attends all meetings students are expected to attend
• Encourages students to reach their potential
• Plays an active role in eliminating barriers associated with post-secondary access and success
• Assists students with community service opportunities
• Lessens the post-secondary intimidation factor by sharing personal experiences

Who can become a mentor?

• Any individual who wants to invest 10-15 hours over the course of a year helping five high school seniors with post-secondary success
• Must be 21 years or older
• Subject to a background check

To become a mentor you must…

• Apply online by November 27 – DEADLINE EXTENDED
• Complete mandatory mentor training by December 15
• Attend mandatory January team meeting
• Attend mandatory March team meeting
• Contact students at least once every two weeks from January through December
